Vampire Glossary
Aura: A field of energy surrounding a living being, sometimes able to be seen or felt by those who are sensitive to energy.
Black Veil, The: A set of guidelines by which many, but not all, vampires live, most recently edited by Michelle Belanger of House Kheperu.
Blood Lust: The desire for energy, also known as hunger. It can manifest in different ways for different people, but boils down to the drive to consume and survive. It can become overwhelming when one goes too long without consuming energy.
Caste: A Kheprian term. A caste is a subsect believed to both serve as indicators for vampirism, and a path to follow in within the House.
Chakra(s): A sanskirt word literally meaning "wheel" or "vortex". One of several energy centers in the body that serves to control the flow of one's life force. A balanced chakra system is believed to lead to a balanced life.
Childe: Originally a term from a popular vampire role playing game, it means an individual born of a specific vampire. Most non-gaming vampires do not use this word.
Coven: A group of individuals who work together, usually within witchcraft. Traditionally they are bound to one another by similar beliefs and secrecy.
Donor: Someone who willingly gives energy or blood to a vampire through a number of different ways.
Elder: An individual chosen to be responsible in a leadership position for a number of reasons, usually based on personal qualities such as trustworthiness or maturity.
Embrace, The: A role playing term from Vampire: The Masquerade that refers to the creation process of a vampire. Vampries are born, however, not created.
Emotional Vampire: A vampire who gains energy from the emotions of others, often intense and pleasant emotions such as love or lust.
Feeding: The act of consuming energy in order to bolster one's personal energy pool.
House: An organization based on a need for community and a shared ethics, suculture, or origin.
Hunger: See Blood Lust.
Hybrid Vampire: Someone who can process multiple types of energy, most commonly blood and psychic or psionic energy.
Lifestyler: Someone who, while not technically a "true" vampire, feels a deep connection to vampires and chooses to romanticize their qualities. They often are members of the gothic community.
Order: See House.
Psychic (Psy) Vampire: A vampire who consumes the life energy of another person through an act of psychic or psionic will. No physical connection is needed, and no medium other than intent is required.
Sanguine Vampire: A vampire who consumes life energy through the act of drinking or sipping blood, usually human and from a willing donor.
Sire: Another role playing term, this time refferring to the master of the Childe, or the one who "turns"or "embraces" the Childe.
Strigoi Vii: Romanian, usually refers to those who have become vampires. Not every subgroup or Order uses this term.
Subtle Body: Also known as the Astral Body, this exist in the non-physical level and is often dictated by our chakra system. It can be similar or different from the physical body, and is affected by emotional, mental, and soul states of being.
Swan: See Donors. Used mostly by lifestylers.
Turning: The act of creating a vampire. This is a role playing term, and not applicable in real life.
Vampire: An individual who needs, or believes themselves to need, to consume energy other than the energy contained in traditional food. This includes those who feed off blood, psychic or psionic energy, sexual energy, and/or a combination of energy types.
